A Merck Pharmaceutical Company Division, Merck Animal Health, is a research-driven company that develops, manufactures and markets a broad range of veterinary medicines and services. They were looking for an experience that more than serviced people checking on the status of their flights, they wanted to be able to provide a better experience for those spending time in the airport terminals as well (where to eat, park, nap, etc.).
One of the many products that Merck manufactures is the micro-chip for pets. These chips provide a number of benefits, including tracking your pet, as well as being able to encode the chip to pet feeders and pet doors. This prevents any animal from entering your home through the pet door or stealing their food, unless the embedded micro-chip is within range (at the door or feeder). This website is used as an ordering portal for pet owners, as well as clinics and veteranarians to order chips in bulk. Merck also was facing an upcoming payment standard deprecation that meant the site couldn't take credit card payments. Due to the many different types of clients they had, they needed a new UX that could handle the many different needs of all their customers, and a technology refresh to the latest standards. The biggest issue was their short two-month timeframe.
Clarity used a significant amount of their existing site design to help shorten the required development time and lower the amount of disruption to clients already used to the existing site. Clarity implemented their eCommerce platform, custom forms for registering micro-chips and lost pets, and much more. The latest payment gateway and technology was used, and some custom navigation done to help improve the user experience and improve the ordering process.
The site was done quickly and replaced the old site with no interuption in service. This meant that there was no lull in their ability to take online credit card orders from their existing clientele. With the introduction of the Clarity eCommerce platform, we were able to customize and extend new UX enhancements to help improve the user experience, as well as provide a platform designed for future growth and customizations surrounding custom memberships and integrated marketing efforts.
The front-end CMS is DNN’s Evoq Professional. HTML5, CSS3 and Modernizr was used to create the responsive template.
Clarity Connect, JavaScript, JQuery, Telerik controls were all needed for various features and functionality, as well as a host of DNN modules, like XMod Pro, Easy DNN News, Rotator and Gallery.
